2/20/82 Golden Hall, San Diego

Listened to this gorgeous show last night and I immediately put it on my "must have" list. Wow. So many hightlights here, I don't know where to start. OK, I guess I'll go with the bad news first: for the best source quality, you have to use 2. Start with this one: http://www.archive.org/details/gd82-02-20.aud.willy.13613.sbeok.shnf for the first set. Not stellar, but pretty darn good. For the second set you should then cue up:
http://www.archive.org/details/gd82-02-20.set2.aud-reutelhuber.miller.23823.sbeok.shnf.
This source only has the second set, but is above the first one in overall quality. Hopefully we'll see the entire show from this source uploaded in the future.
Anyway, back to the show. Don't like CC Rider? I usually don't either, but this one is light years away from what I've been used to. Jerry just lights it up. The LIG set closer is ridiculous, extened out into happy-land, Jerry's fingers flying like a triple espresso laced with NoDoze. The second set opener of Franklins>Samson is a juggernaut. But the true gem here is the Playin'. This thing is stretched out and jammed so beautifully I had to go back and listen to it at least 2 more times. Brent by this time had forsaken the Toy Piano and gotten a very nice sound, which is highlighted here with an extend jam pre-drums. This one will get your day going very, very nicely.

Oh, and Rob, sorry to distract you yet again with another Digital Dilemma. My only advice here is "suck it up" and make some time.

Nice show. Don't mind staying in 82, actually, haven't been there enough in the recent past. Both today's and last night's shows have been sweet. Keep em coming.

Damn it, Hollow, if I sucked it up any harder my head would cave in.

I am currently lost in the Springfield Civic Center

http://www.archive.org/details/gd77-04-23.sbd.jerugim.1827.sbefail.shnf

where I find it just impossible to get over how spellbindingly gorgeous the Scarlet-Fire transition is - just one of the most beautiful things I ever heard. And once I tear myself away from that I'll have to cue up William Tell's Winwood show:

http://www.archive.org/details/gd70-11-16.sbd.winters.17361.sbeok.shnf

Then, I'll get around to your show. By which time of course you'll have posted up some other damnable recommendation that I'll be powerless to ignore.

Curse you, you fiend. Curse you.

That may well be, HL. But it was Tell who pointed me towards it last night.

Fiend? What others may interpret as malicious slander, I take as a compliment. If there is anything else that I can do to interrupt, delay, hijack, re-direct or othewise pilfer any of your attention, just let me know. Always happy to oblige.

Dang, I though folks would be overjoyed that I had finally stopped ranting about '79.

By the way, to answer your question: no, there is no escape. Great shows will seek you out no matter where you hide.

yeah, I'm just pulling myself out of an 7/8/78 RedRocks daze
(or was that 8/7...) so now 10/10/82 frosted my brain cell and more now. The music never stops :)

Guilty as charged. Been really enjoying shows in 82 for the reasons that have been mentioned. Namely great setlists and no toy piano. As for this particular show i would also mention two other tidbits. The smokin' LIG comes out of a TLMD so it really does feel turbocharged right off the bat. Another first set song along with CC Rider that sounds a bit different is Mexicali Blues. Jerry seems to go off into full polka mode in the middle of the song. Clearly he was having a good time at this show.

I also hope that a board of this shows up some time or at least a complete show that has the sound of the source that Charlie Miller did the tracking and editing.
